Maintenance

Perform and Approve Annual Inspections

Conduct the required Annual Inspection on aircraft

Sign logbooks and return to service

Perform AD research
Preventive Maintenance

Items allowed under 14 CFR Part 43 Appendix A(c) (e.g., tires, brakes, spark plugs, landing gear strut servicing, oil change, etc.)
Perform and Approve Major Repairs & Minor Alterations

Inspect and sign FAA Form 337

Approve return to service after major structural, system, or engine work
(e.g., wing spar replacement, major sheet metal work, STCs, complex avionics installs)
Perform Conformity Inspections
Often needed for:

Importing an aircraft

Export certification

Field approvals

Experimental-to-standard category conversions (when applicable)
Alterations

Minor alterations (modifications that don’t significantly affect weight, balance, strength, flight characteristics, etc.)
Approvals for Return to Service (RTS)
An A&P may sign logbooks for:
